This program is for boys and girls selected out of other SCGA programs to start training for the competitive stream of gymnastics. We have two competitive disciplines at SCGA which consist of the WAG program (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) and MAG program (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics). All competitive programs require a physical assessment of the child as well as a trial period before being accepted in to the program.  During this trial period, if your child finds that the class does not suit them they are welcome to move back across to their retrospective program.

The decision to enter this program is up to you and your child. Competitive gymnastics is a high level of commitment from both child and supporting families.

There are three different “stages” for our Star Development Squads, they are as follows:

Mini Stars Squad
3 – 5 years, minimum 1.5 hrs a week
Developing fundamental skills required for the foundation levels of gymnastics as well as learning basic presentation of skills, tight body, stamina, mental focus and readiness.
Uniform purchases optional for this squad

Shining Stars Squad
4 – 7 years, minimum 2 hrs a week
Progressing fundamental skills to build routines to compete in foundation level 1 competitions as well as building on presentation of skills, tight body, stamina, mental focus and readiness.
Uniform purchases required for this squad.

Super Stars Squad
6 – 8 years, minimum 4 hrs a week
Further progressing routine based skills and building for foundation level 2 competitions as well as perfecting presentation, tight body, stamina, mental focus and readiness.
Uniform purchases required for this squad.

Gymnasts within this program are required to go to Foundation competitions and events to represent our club and also are required to purchase additional SCGA uniforms.

Due to the fact they will be learning to perfect more challenging skills at a faster rate than recreational gymnastics, we will be focusing on developing strength, flexibility and shaping to promote their skill level. It is likely that they will stay in the Star Performance Squads for at least 6-12 months or more before entering into the Medallion Squads.
